LS Standalone Harness 101 Beginners Guide | HOW TO Wire a LS Swap Hotrod Engine



This time on SPPTV I do my best to pass on the knowledge I have gained through the years building over 20 stand alone LS wiring harnesses. I am no professional and you should do your own research before jumping into a project like this, but I have never had any problems.

Re-Wiring a stock GM truck wiring harness is intimidating if you are new to this kind of thing, but it is relatively simple if you follow some steps. The best advice I can give is to do things in sections. Focus on one part of the wiring harness at a time and then tape it up, put it to the side, etc. .

In this video I show how you can convert a factory Silverado wiring harness to be used in a LS swap vehicle of any type. I cover the pcm connectors and de pinning. Removing connectors and un-needed wires. Power wires and which wires to connect to outside sources, and more.

  1. It all sounded fantastic right up to the point where you have the haul out the multi meter and trace all the power wires that all look the same… it was then I realized I was trapped in a nightmare 🙂

  2. have you ever got problems with extremly dry wire and when moving all of them like that you end up having issues because some of them break ? I d'ont want to pay for a new harness but gosh how long it would be to rewire all of that hahahah

  3. Do you need to remove unnecessary wires if you don’t want to? I understand the fact of cleaning up the harness but is it necessary

  6. so if i have an express van harness and the colors of the wires on the pins are different but it says to remove, do i remove them?

  7. Where are you getting the pink wires for the front o2 sensors to the new fuse block? The rear o2 only has pink wires ans they are required to be removed!

  8. Best to use a dental pick to release the tab on connector pins. They can be fragile and you don't want to break any.

Excellent info-I wish I could find one for my swap-a 57 ford pickup with basically a 2008 crown vic cop car under it -I am going to TRY this on the ford set up and keep as much modern stuff from the donor car as possible keeping drive by wire-computer-cruise-heat/ac steering column etc to make it as close to plug and play as possible. Until get into it I have no idea how bad but have to eliminate the 4 door to 2 door crap (windows-locks-buzzers whatever) , make it run with all the modern goodies-bad part I am old and not a computer wiz so might fry the whole thing

  11. I have a aftermarket wire harness with two ground wires which one has about 5v when I plugged up everything to the battery. Should it have two grounds and should both be grounded to the engine?

  12. Is there any way you would be able to help me with my lt1 harness to put an 6.0 liter in it so I can have all my gauges work ?
